Live NE News
Public Education Northeast (PEN) is attempting to better understand what school programs and offerings are important to parents, students, and the community of northeast Minneapolis. We wish to collect opinions from as many parents of students and other stakeholders in the northeast corridor, including current Minneapolis Public School (MPS) parents as well as parents of children who have chosen other schools. We really want to know the reasons for how you make decisions about your child’s education.

The MPS school board is in the process of completing a strategic planning process which will allow them to shape the direction of all schools.

How do we wish to shape the schools in the northeast community?

That’s why your input is crucial!

First LEED Certified House in Minneapolis PDF Print E-mail

Over 350 people turned out for the CPED / WPCiA Open House on August 17, 2007 at 1415 18th Ave NE, Mpls.

Thanks to WPCiA (Windom Park Citizens in Action), CPED (the City of Minneapolis' Community Planning and Economic Development arm), UMR Geothermal, Hartman & Son Builders, Barley John's Brewpub, Central Avenue Liquors, Columbia Grounds Coffee, The Red Stag Supper Club and Rock Solid Realty MN, the open house was a smashing success.

Northeasters & City staff were able to mix it up on the 17th.  Everyone had an opportunity to tour the new construction home, watch a concise educational, Building Green power point, participate in a Q & A segment and celebrate a job well done!  Because of the partnership between CPED, WPCiA and Shafer Hartman, Northeast Minneapolis has Minneapolis' 1st LEED certified single family home!

Red Stag Supper Club Chef Bill Baskin rocked the house with an amazing assortment of appetizers.  Barley John's Brewpub and Central Ave Liquors and Columbia Grounds Coffee complimented the food with great beer, wine and coffee!

A special thank you goes out to the behind the scenes coordinators.  Thank you Kevin Reich, Gayle Bonneville, Bill Koncak, Amy & Marko Fields, Kim Bartmann, John Moore and everyone else that went above and beyond what would ever be expected of you!

How cool is this?  The 45th Parallel, a new vodka made in a small family distillery was introduced at the event.  Paul Werni, Northeast Park & Rec. wrestling coach and Waite Park resident owns the distillery!

This?  The Red Stag Supper Club is Minnesota's 1st LEED certified restaurant.

This?  There are less than 10 brewpubs in Minnesota and the owners of Barley John's live in Windom Park.

How about this on the cool factor?  The food, beer, wine, coffee and vodka had a common theme - and it's Northeast.

How about this?  John Thomas, owner of Central Liquors, when grabbing wine off his wine rack to donate, looks at a $30 bottle of wine and sort of talking to himself says, "Huh, I didn't know I had wine that expensive," doesn't miss a step and puts it right in the box with the other $15 bottles.

How about this?  We asked Barley John's, Central Liquors and Columbia Grounds if they would sponsor one of the 3 August events - they all sponsored all three.

How about this for Northeast cool? Granite Studio Owner Shimu Khan shows up at this event and donates granite countertops to the 705 project.  Click here for more information on that one.

This is Northeast cool - Northeast Minneapolis has the coolest grannies around and at this event the Northeast granny brigade and the hipsters were hangin'.

Visit redstagsupperclub.com or barleyjohns.com or columbiagrounds.com for more information on the sponsors.
