Live NE News
Public Education Northeast (PEN) is attempting to better understand what school programs and offerings are important to parents, students, and the community of northeast Minneapolis. We wish to collect opinions from as many parents of students and other stakeholders in the northeast corridor, including current Minneapolis Public School (MPS) parents as well as parents of children who have chosen other schools. We really want to know the reasons for how you make decisions about your child’s education.

The MPS school board is in the process of completing a strategic planning process which will allow them to shape the direction of all schools.

How do we wish to shape the schools in the northeast community?

That’s why your input is crucial!

Stress The "I" In HNIA!

The Holland Neighborhood Improvement Association is partnering on yet another Holland Neighborhood improvement project. The pictures from the on-going renovation reveal yet another HNIA success story. Kevin Reich, Project Director HNIA & Karen Peterson, Outreach Coordinator HNIA call it "Showtime!"

In celebration of this projects completion come join the Northeast Community, Edison Staff & Parent barbeque.  For more information, click here

When the house is finished, it will even have hard-wired surround sound, central-air, two decks, re-finished hardwood floors, leaded-glass front door, built-in front porch chair swing, ceramic tile kitchen and bathroom floors and so on!

Special thanks for this project goes out to all of the contractors for partnering up to continue to improve the Edison campus, the heart of the Holland Neighborhood. If you have a friend or relative in need of a great plumber, electrician, HVAC tradesman, low-voltage specialist, handyman or roofer, recommend they call the Holland Neighborhood Improvement Association for details regarding the contractors participating in this project.

A very special thank you goes out to Jeffrey Morrison & Gerald Miller (M & M Handyman Services)! They are the driving work-force behind the project. They are on schedule but they haven't seen their families much since the start of the project, except while working together with their wives, sons and daughters on the demolition and landscaping. They have been working hard on Northeast Minneapolis projects for years now and they do quality work!

It's going to be a great house and possibly one of the best values in Northeast.  Wouldn't it be nice to own a place with the character of an older stucco home and the upkeep of a new home?

With a new high efficiency water heater and furnace, new central air, new windows, new doors and complete new insulation and vapor barrier plus new glass-block windows in the basement, it will be very energy efficient also.

Other sincere thanks goes out to Jim Larson Plumbing & Heating. Abode Construction, Mettler Electric, J. J. Vanderson, and Guy and Camin Bell.. Jim Larson will spend an afternoon with you if you have an idea how you can improve a neighborhood. He is a creative personality and very supportive of Northeat Minneapolis. Jim is always a great team player on any project. Raul Moreno (Abode Construction) is the best dressed salsa dancing, motorcycle driving, customer satisfaction driven roofer in the business. Mick Mettler (Mettler Electric) is a gentleman that owns and operates a steady, reliable, trusted family business. John Vandermyde is an Edison graduate and very well respected in Northeast!  John Jr. was excited to do the project just because it was across the street from Edison High School - his siblings went to school at Edison and his father and mother still show up at meetings at Edison - need we say more about the Vandermyde family?

Last but not least, thanks to Guy Bell, former Northeast resident and his beautiful and artistic wife Camin Bell, now living in the San Francisco area of California but still committed to financing Northeast Minneapolis projects.  When Guy and Camin view this site it will be the first time they have seen the house they financed over a month ago.  It's safe to say they have a deep level of trust and caring for people that live right here in Northeast Minneapolis!

We will continue to take pictures of the project throughout the renovation.  Tell your friends to keep an eye on the project right here on LiveNE.info!

Soon the property will be ready for sale.  Kevin O'Brien, Loan Officer M & M Mortgage is the preferred lender and loan officer for the project.  By the way, it's just a coincidence, M & M Mortgage and M & M Handyman Services are not affiliated.  Call Kevin for a pre-approval.  Kevin has a reputation for getting the loan done and on-time.  We call him "The Bulldog!"  He takes great care of the client and sinks his teeth into the lender and won't let go until he gets the loan that is best for his client.   He would be good guy to have in your corner. You can reach Kevin O'Brien at 651-558-9810.
