Audubon Park (29th & Buchanan) is having "Saturday Sports for Families". Saturdays from April 21st until May 26th 10AM to 11AM come and play a loosely organized game of soccer, t-ball, flag football, kickball, etc. We'll be playing one sport per week with any family members welcome. This is just for fun, fresh air, and a chance to expose kids to a variety of sports with no pressure or expectations. This is for families so please don't drop younger kids off for us to babysit.

The Northeast Lions Award Banquet will be held on April 11th.  The place and time is yet to be determined.  We will keep you updated on the sports blog!

Parents:  Weigh-ins are between 7:30 & 8:30!  The wrestling starts at 9:30 AM, but your wrestler needs to be on time to weigh-in!

Trophies will be awarded to the winners at the banquet.  More information on that to come!

No practice tonight but be ready to practice twice as hard Monday.  Remember, the City Tournament is the 10th.

 

Parents, remember to have your wrestlers wear their uniforms to Tuesday's practice. It's picture day!

Bring your sled, snowboard or rent a tube! It's snow time on Sunday, March 4th from Noon - 2! See you there!

The date, place and time of Northeast Lions award banquet is yet to be determined. Coach Wakaruk likes to get the team pictures and the trophies before he schedules the banquet. We will keep you posted on SportsNE.

Parents - remember the NE Lions wrestlers will be bowling at Elsie's from 1-3 PM on Sunday, February 25th.

When retelling the story of the Northeast Lions wrestling match to my wife last night I said, "These are the four greatest days of my life; the day Janey (my daughter) was born, the day Andrew (my son) was born, the day I married you and the first day Andrew wrestled in a match where he perfectly executed a move called a "switch".

The match last night was held at Harvest Prep school. The wrestler Andrew beat (4-2) was a good wrestler. The move that made the difference was the "switch". The Lions have spent much time practicing that move and it was great to see Andrew use it to win a match.

About 30 minutes after the match Andrew walked up to me and said, "Dad, did you see I did that thing my teachers taught me". Then, my 55 pound wrestler demonstrated a "switch". He added, "That's the only way I could figure out how to get away from him." So, he didn't just win by instinct, strength or raw 2nd grader talent, he won because he was able to think through the move while he was wrestling.

Of course, when we got home we had to re-live the wrestling match for my wife with me as the guinea pig. We got into position - he did the "switch" and when he got around behind me decided to drive me into the carpet. As always I am on the floor yelling, "Break!" I looked at Andrew and he said, "My teacher showed me that one too."

 

Andrew (left) has been lucky to have Pauli as a training partner. Pauli weighs about 8 pounds less than Andrew but is more experienced. These guys like to wrestle!

 

I wasn't at the Thursday practice, but it's my understanding we are supposed to meet at the Audubon Park building at Noon today, Saturday, September 17th and then we are going to Columbia Park for a couple of hours. Pizza is planned after the sliding.

I heard they rent tubes at Columbia Park. It this true?
